Overview#
The Blue Star NG150-01P is the prime-rated variant of the NG150-01, rated 125 kWe continuous on natural gas (95 kWe on LP). It is built on the same PSI 8.1LT inline-six platform as the standby NG150-01 and shares an identical physical footprint. The "-P" suffix designates prime-continuous duty: unlimited hours per year at rated load, backed by a 1-year / 1,500-hour prime warranty.
Standby vs. prime: what the rating change means#
Prime-rated units are intended for applications where the generator runs as a primary or continuous power source rather than emergency backup:
- Standby (NG150-01): 150 kWe, for infrequent outage coverage — 2-year / 2,000-hour warranty
- Prime (NG150-01P): 125 kWe, for continuous or heavily cycled duty — 1-year / 1,500-hour warranty
- Same PSI 8.1LT engine, same enclosure dimensions and weight
- Fuel consumption at prime 100% load: 1,337 ft³/hr NG (vs. 1,577 ft³/hr for standby at 150 kW)
When to spec the NG150-01P#
- Continuous or frequent prime power applications on natural gas or LP
- Peak-shaving or load-following where the generator runs for extended hours daily
- Facilities with natural gas supply that need confirmed prime-duty certification for permitting or financing purposes
- Where the 125 kWe prime ceiling fits the load profile — see the NG200-01P for 175 kWe prime operation
Alternator configurations#
The NG150-01P uses the same alternator selection as the NG150-01, with 105°C prime temperature rise rating (vs. 125°C standby):
| Voltage | Phase | Alternator | Connection |
|---|---|---|---|
| 120/240V | 1 | Stamford UCDI274J1 | 12-lead DD |
| 120/208V | 3 | Stamford UCI274G | 12-lead WYE |
| 240V | 3 | Stamford UCI274G | 12-lead DELTA |
| 277/480V | 3 | Stamford UCI274F | 12-lead WYE |
| 347/600V | 3 | Stamford UCI274F | 4-lead WYE |
Our service experience#
Service intervals and parts cross-references are identical to the NG150-01. The primary difference at service is the prime-duty hour accumulation — plan for more frequent oil and spark plug changes relative to a standby unit that runs infrequently. PSI recommends confirming service intervals with their published prime-duty maintenance schedule when the generator is used for continuous operation.
