Overview#
The Blue Star NG150-01 is a 150-kilowatt natural gas / LP standby generator built on the PSI 8.1LT inline-six platform. It is rated 150 kWe standby / 125 kWe prime on natural gas (115 kWe standby on LP). The NG150-01 is the entry point of Blue Star's NG-prefix gaseous line, which uses larger PSI engines starting at the 8.1L I-6; the smaller PS-prefix units (PS130-01 and below) use the PSI 8.8L V8.
The PSI 8.1LT engine#
The PSI 8.1LT is an 8.1-liter inline-six turbocharged and charge-air-cooled spark-ignition engine:
- Inline-six configuration — 4.37-inch bore × 5.47-inch stroke, 10.5:1 compression ratio, 492 cu in displacement
- Turbocharged with charge-air cooling (CAC) for the power density required at 150 kW
- Dedicated gaseous fuel platform — purpose-built for natural gas and LP, not a converted diesel
- EPA Stationary Spark Ignition certified under 40 CFR 60 Subpart JJJJ for emergency standby duty
Deration factors: 1.5% per 10°F above 77°F inlet air temperature; 2.5% per 1,000 ft above 1,200 ft altitude.
DSE DCP7310 controller#
The NG150-01 ships standard with the DSE DCP7310 digital control panel. Key features include digital metering, engine and generator protection, CAN Bus J1939 ECU communications, Windows-based configuration software, RS485 interface, 8 programmable inputs, 10 contact outputs, and IP 65 ingress protection rating.
Alternator configurations#
The NG150-01 supports five voltage configurations:
| Voltage | Phase | Alternator | Connection |
|---|---|---|---|
| 120/240V | 1 | Stamford UCDI274J1 | 12-lead DD |
| 120/208V | 3 | Stamford UCI274G | 12-lead WYE |
| 240V | 3 | Stamford UCI274G | 12-lead DELTA |
| 277/480V | 3 | Stamford UCI274F | 12-lead WYE |
| 347/600V | 3 | Stamford UCI274F | 4-lead WYE |
All configurations use a single-bearing, brushless, four-pole rotating-field design with 125°C standby temperature rise and ±1% voltage regulation.
When to spec the NG150-01#
- 100–150 kW sustained standby loads on utility natural gas or LP
- Sites where natural gas infrastructure is the primary advantage over diesel (no on-site fuel storage, lower environmental risk)
- Applications requiring single-phase 240V output (available; NG200 and above are three-phase only at this capacity class)
- Where prime-rated duty is not required — see the NG150-01P for 125 kWe prime-continuous operation
Our service experience#
The PSI 8.1LT inline-six is specific to the 150 kW tier of Blue Star's NG-prefix gaseous line. Its inline-six form factor is slightly longer than the V8 used in PS-prefix units but with simpler access to many service items. Spark plugs, ignition coils, charge-air cooler hoses, and oil/air filters are the primary service intervals. The DSE DCP7310 controller is consistent across the entire current Blue Star gaseous lineup, so field technicians familiar with any Blue Star unit can service the NG150-01 controls without additional training.
