Overview#
The Gillette PR-2400 is a 240-kilowatt prime-rated natural gas generator on PSI's 14.6L turbocharged V8 — the same engine platform as the SP-3500 standby (350 kW). At 240 kW prime (362 bhp), the engine operates well within its thermal design limits for unlimited continuous duty. Three-phase only, Stamford S4L1DD alternator, DSE 7420 MKII controller.
Standby to prime: the SP-3500 and PR-2400 relationship#
The PSI 14.6L V8 demonstrates the standby-to-prime derating pattern:
- SP-3500: 350 kW standby (536 bhp) — limited annual hours
- PR-2400: 240 kW prime (362 bhp) — unlimited continuous duty
The 31% derating ensures engine longevity under sustained load. For facilities that need continuous power at 200+ kW on natural gas, the PR-2400 is the appropriate specification.
Our service experience#
The PSI 14.6L at continuous duty requires 8-cylinder ignition service at 1000-hour intervals — approximately every 6 weeks at 24/7 operation. We structure PR-2400 maintenance as multi-technician service events to complete the 8-cylinder ignition, oil, and air filter service efficiently within a planned maintenance window.
