Overview#
The Blue Star NG800-01 is an 800-kilowatt natural gas / LP standby generator built on the PSI 40-liter V12 platform — the largest engine in Blue Star's current gaseous lineup below the PSI 52L-based models. It is rated 800 kWe standby on natural gas and 475 kWe on LP at 60 Hz / 1800 RPM. Three-phase only (208V, 240V, 480V, 600V, and 4160V). UL 2200 listing applies through 600VAC only — the 4160V configuration is not UL-listed.
The PSI 40L V12#
The PSI 40L is a 39.2-liter (2,392 cu in) V12 turbocharged-aftercooled spark-ignition engine:
- 1,234 bHp (921 kWm) at 1800 RPM standby — 28% more than the 32L (966 bHp)
- 5.91-in bore × 7.28-in stroke — same bore as the 32L but longer stroke (7.28 vs. 5.91 in)
- 38.6 gal oil system — the largest oil capacity in Blue Star's gaseous line
- 459 GPM water pump flow rate (vs. 361 GPM on 32L, 151 GPM on 21.9L)
- EPA Stationary Spark Ignition certified under 40 CFR 60 Subpart JJJJ
- 52,000 CFM ventilation requirement — substantially larger than the 32L's 41,200 CFM
Fuel pressure requirement#
Important: The NG800-01 requires 30 in. water column inlet fuel pressure — nearly 3× the 11 in. WC required by smaller Blue Star gaseous units. Site gas infrastructure, meter sets, and regulators must be sized to deliver 30 in. WC under sustained full-load conditions. This is a critical specification check before installation.
4160V option and UL listing#
The NG800-01 is the first model in Blue Star's gaseous lineup to offer 4160V three-phase output:
| Voltage | Phase | Alternator | Connection |
|---|---|---|---|
| 120/208V | 3 | Stamford S6L1D-D | 12-lead WYE |
| 240V | 3 | Stamford S6L1D-D | 12-lead DELTA |
| 277/480V | 3 | Stamford S6L1D-C | 12-lead WYE |
| 347/600V | 3 | Stamford S6L1D-C | 4-lead WYE |
| 4160V | 3 | Stamford MVWI734E | 6-lead WYE |
All configurations carry 125°C standby temperature rise and ±0.5% voltage regulation.
UL listing: UL 2200, cUL, and CSA certifications apply through 600VAC only. The 4160V configuration is not UL-listed. Confirm AHJ requirements before specifying 4160V output.
LP output note#
The NG800-01's LP standby rating of 475 kWe is 59% of the 800 kWe NG rating — lower LP-to-NG parity than smaller PSI 32L-based models. For sites where LP fuel must carry substantial load, verify the 475 kWe LP rating against the load profile.
When to spec the NG800-01#
- 660–800 kW standby loads on natural gas or LP (three-phase only)
- Sites with 4160V distribution infrastructure where gaseous fuel is required
- Applications requiring the highest single-unit output on natural gas before moving to dual-unit installations
Our service experience#
The PSI 40L V12 is a large and specialized platform. Service intervals on a 12-cylinder engine with 38.6 gal of oil are significant — plan for proportionally larger fluid changes and a full 12-cylinder spark plug and ignition coil schedule. Fuel delivery infrastructure (30 in. WC sustained under load) must be verified before commissioning.
