Overview#
The Blue Star NG650-01 is a 650-kilowatt natural gas / LP standby generator — the top standby output in the PSI 32L V12 product family. It is rated 650 kWe standby on natural gas and 400 kWe on LP at 60 Hz / 1800 RPM. Three-phase only (208V, 240V, 480V, 600V). The NG650-01 shares the 210×96×103 in OPU footprint with all other 32L-based models (NG500-01, NG600-01).
The PSI 32L at peak output#
The NG650-01 runs the PSI 32L V12 at its highest standby rating in the Blue Star catalog. Thermal rejection is proportionally the highest in the 32L family:
- Coolant heat rejection: 2,044,440 BTU/hr (vs. 1,606,080 for NG500-01, 1,859,460 for NG600-01)
- Heat radiated: 767,220 BTU/hr
- Exhaust volume: 4,354 CFM at 1,183°F
Above the NG650-01, the lineup transitions to the PSI 40L V12 (NG800-01), which has a larger engine block, higher volumetric cooling requirements, and 4160V availability.
Alternator configurations#
| Voltage | Phase | Alternator | Connection |
|---|---|---|---|
| 120/208V | 3 | Stamford S6L1D-C | 12-lead WYE |
| 240V | 3 | Stamford S6L1D-C | 12-lead DELTA |
| 277/480V | 3 | Stamford HCI534F | 12-lead WYE |
| 347/600V | 3 | Stamford HCI534F | 4-lead WYE |
All configurations carry 125°C standby temperature rise and ±0.5% voltage regulation.
When to spec the NG650-01#
- 550–650 kW standby loads on natural gas or LP (three-phase only)
- Sites where the standard 77°F / 1,200 ft deration thresholds are acceptable
- Applications where staying in the PSI 32L platform footprint (210×96 in) is preferred before moving to the 40L-based NG800-01
Our service experience#
The NG650-01 is the ceiling of the 32L platform family. At this output level, thermal loads on ignition components are at their maximum for the 32L — spark plug and ignition coil intervals should be tracked carefully. Parts availability is consistent with the NG500-01 and NG600-01 service requirements from the same engine family.
