Overview#
The Blue Star NG350-02 is a 350-kilowatt natural gas standby generator built around the PSI 14.6LHO — the high-output variant of the 14.6L V8 used in the NG265-01 and NG300-01. The NG350-02 is a natural-gas-only model; no LP rating is published. It occupies the top of the 14.6L platform before stepping up to the PSI 21.9L V12 at 400 kW.
The PSI 14.6LHO high-output engine#
The 14.6LHO is differentiated from the standard 14.6L by higher fuel system calibration:
- Same displacement — 891 cu in (14.6L), 5.04-inch bore × 5.59-inch stroke, 10.5:1 compression
- 536 bHp (400 kWm) at 1800 RPM standby — 80 bHp more than the standard 14.6L
- Natural gas only — the higher boost and calibration are tuned for NG and do not support LP operation
- Structural steel base, pad-type vibration isolation, 4,000W jacket water heater standard
Deration factors: 1.5% per 10°F above 77°F inlet air temperature; 2.5% per 1,000 ft above 1,200 ft altitude.
Alternator configurations#
The NG350-02 is three-phase only:
| Voltage | Phase | Alternator | Connection |
|---|---|---|---|
| 120/208V | 3 | Stamford S4L1D-F41 | 12-lead WYE |
| 240V | 3 | Stamford S4L1D-F41 | 12-lead DELTA |
| 277/480V | 3 | Stamford S4L1D-E41 | 12-lead WYE |
| 347/600V | 3 | Stamford S4L1S-E4 | 4-lead WYE |
When to spec the NG350-02#
- 300–350 kW standby loads on utility natural gas only (no LP option)
- Sites where NG supply is confirmed and LP is not a fallback fuel
- Applications in the gap between 300 kW and 400 kW class where the 14.6L platform's compact footprint is preferred over the larger 21.9L V12
- Note: heat rejection at 350 kW standby is 1,132,620 BTU/hr coolant — confirm mechanical room ventilation capacity before installation
Our service experience#
The 14.6LHO is a higher-demand variant of the 14.6L V8. Service procedures and parts are shared with the NG265-01 and NG300-01. The NG350-02's higher heat rejection (420,000 BTU/hr radiated to ambient vs. 324,840 for the NG265-01) requires confirmation that the installation space provides adequate ventilation airflow — 29,970 CFM for a radiator-cooled OPU installation.
