Overview#
The Blue Star JD60-04FT4MP is a 60-kilowatt EPA Tier 4 Final mobile trailer diesel generator powered by the John Deere 4045HFG04 — a 4.51-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged and charge-air-cooled engine on John Deere's 4045 generator platform. It is the entry point into the SCR-equipped JD mobile series, adding a 3.8-gallon DEF tank and DOC/SCR aftertreatment to meet Tier 4 Final requirements.
Blue Star Power Systems mounts the 4045HFG04 on an aluminum road trailer with a 250-gallon integral fuel tank, pairing it with a Stamford UCI224F alternator and DSE DCP7310 controller. At 8,700 lbs, the JD60-04FT4MP remains tow-capable with a properly rated 3/4-ton or 1-ton truck. The 214.5 × 90 in trailer footprint and deration ceiling of 8,400 ft at 122°F position it well for high-altitude construction and utility applications.
The 4045 Platform at 60 kW#
The 4045HFG04 is a T4F-specific calibration of John Deere's 4.5-liter 4045 four-cylinder engine — one of the most widely deployed generator engines in the 40–100 kWe class globally. The HFG04 designation reflects the turbocharged, charge-air-cooled configuration with T4F aftertreatment integration. The same 4045HFG04 block also powers the JD80-03FT4MP at 80 kWe; the 60 kWe calibration reflects a lower fuel delivery and boost mapping, not a different engine. This means the JD60 and JD80 share the same trailer footprint (214.5 × 90 in) and engine maintenance intervals.
DEF Operation at This Output Level#
Starting with the JD60, Blue Star's JD mobile series uses SCR/DOC Tier 4 Final aftertreatment. The DEF tank capacity of 3.8 gallons is sized for roughly 18–20 hours of full-load operation before refill at standard DEF consumption rates. For deployments longer than a weekend, DEF refill should be planned alongside diesel refueling. DEF quality requirements follow John Deere's published specifications (ISO 22241-1 compliant, 32.5% urea concentration).
When to specify the JD60-04FT4MP#
- 55–60 kW temporary or standby power at construction, utility, commercial, or event sites
- Sites up to 8,400 ft elevation at ambient temperatures to 122°F
- Applications where the 250-gallon tank provides sufficient runtime without mid-deployment refueling
- Single-phase or three-phase loads; footprint-compatible with the JD80 if load growth is anticipated
Our service experience#
The 4045HFG04 at 60 kWe is a lightly loaded version of the 4045 platform, which tends to run reliably when load-banked at least annually to full rated output. DPF and SCR monitoring per John Deere's T4F service schedule is required. Keep a DEF sample in the service kit — contaminated DEF causes SCR fault codes that are difficult to resolve in the field. Verify the 12V battery charge state at each PM; the 4045 cold-start current draw is moderate but battery degradation accelerates with infrequent use cycles typical of standby units.
