Overview#
The Gillette SPVD-3000 is a 300-kilowatt stationary diesel standby generator on Volvo Penta's TAD1351GE — a 12.8L turbocharged inline-6. This begins the TAD13xx family that powers three SPVD models (3000, 3500, 4000) at different calibrations from the same block. Same enclosure footprint as the SPVD-2500. Stamford S4L1DE alternator, Basler DGC-2020 controller.
The Volvo TAD13xx platform — three models from one block#
The 12.8L Volvo TAD13xx series at 300-400 kW is analogous to what Blue Star does with the same engine family:
| Model | Engine | BMEP | Standby kW | bhp |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SPVD-3000 | TAD1351GE | 254 psi | 300 | 456 |
| SPVD-3500 | TAD1352GE | 299 psi | 350 | 537 |
| SPVD-4000 | TAD1353GE | 340 psi | 400 | 611 |
Same bore, stroke, compression, displacement — different turbo boost and fuel delivery calibrations. This is the same Volvo approach used in the Blue Star VD300/VD350/VD400 range.
Our service experience#
The Volvo TAD13xx 12.8L is a platform we service extensively on Blue Star VD generators in our territory. The Delphi E3 injection system and EMS 2.2 engine management are well-documented and diagnostically transparent through the Basler controller. We carry 12.8L Volvo consumables as standard stock — they serve both Gillette and Blue Star units.
