Overview#
The Gillette SPVD-3500 is a 350-kilowatt stationary diesel standby generator — the mid-point of the 12.8L TAD13xx platform. The TAD1352GE produces 537 bhp from 12.8L displacement — the same block as the 300 kW SPVD-3000 and 400 kW SPVD-4000 at a different calibration. Stamford S4L1DF alternator, Basler DGC-2020 controller.
Three models, one block — the TAD13xx sweet spot#
The SPVD-3500 sits at the midpoint of the 12.8L TAD13xx range, offering a balanced combination of output, thermal margin, and fuel efficiency. The TAD1352 operates at 299 psi BMEP — 18% higher than the TAD1351 (300 kW) but 14% lower than the TAD1353 (400 kW). This means more thermal headroom than the 400 kW variant while still extracting meaningful output.
All three TAD13xx models share the same enclosure footprint (132 x 52 x 65 in open). For load growth planning, any foundation designed for the SPVD-3000 will accommodate a future upgrade to the SPVD-3500 or SPVD-4000.
Our service experience#
We service the Volvo TAD1352 on both Gillette SPVD and Blue Star VD generators. The 12.8L inline-6 is a workhorse diesel platform — reliable, well-documented, and straightforward to maintain. At 350 kW, annual load bank testing and fuel quality management are the two most impactful maintenance activities. The Basler DGC-2020 controller provides clear event logging for post-outage analysis.
