Overview#
The Blue Star NG450-01 is a 450-kilowatt natural gas / LP standby generator — the top output in Blue Star's PSI 21.9L V12 standby lineup. It is rated 450 kWe standby on natural gas and 300 kWe on LP at 60 Hz / 1800 RPM. Three-phase only (208V, 240V, 480V, 600V). The NG450-01 shares its engine, footprint, and enclosure with the NG400-01 and NG425-01.
The PSI 21.9L V12#
The PSI 21.9L is a 1,338-cubic-inch (21.9-liter) V12 turbocharged-aftercooled spark-ignition engine rated 684 bHp (510 kWm) at 1800 RPM standby. The NG450-01 represents the maximum standby output from this platform — the next step up (NG500-01) moves to the larger PSI 32L V12, which is physically and mechanically distinct.

All configurations carry 125°C standby temperature rise and ±0.5% voltage regulation.
Platform boundary note#
The NG450-01 is the ceiling of the 21.9L V12 standby range. Moving to the NG500-01 means transitioning to the PSI 32L V12 platform — a 31.8-liter engine in a significantly larger 210×96×103 in footprint (vs. 156×86×98 in for the 21.9L units). If the application fits within the 156-in OPU length, maximizing output on the 21.9L platform before stepping to the 32L is often the preferred approach.
When to spec the NG450-01#
- 375–450 kW standby loads on natural gas or LP (three-phase sites only)
- Sites where the 156×86×98 in OPU footprint is required — the 21.9L platform at its maximum output
- Applications that cannot accommodate the 210-in length of the PSI 32L platform
Our service experience#
Service procedures are identical to the NG400-01 and NG425-01. The PSI 21.9L V12 is the highest-volume large-gaseous engine in Blue Star's catalog, and parts availability through PSI's national distribution is generally strong. The DSE DCP7310 controller is consistent across all models in this family.
