Overview#
The Blue Star VD300-04FT4MP is a 300-kilowatt EPA Tier 4 Final / EU Stage 5 mobile trailer diesel generator powered by the Volvo Penta TAD1383VE — a 12.8-liter, six-cylinder turbocharged and charge-air-cooled engine. It is the highest-output model on Blue Star's 260 × 92 in mobile trailer platform and the maximum output available from the TAD1383VE in this product line.
Blue Star Power Systems pairs the TAD1383VE with a Stamford S4L1D-E41 alternator and DSE DCP7310 controller, mounted on an aluminum road trailer with a 350-gallon integral fuel tank and 18.5-gallon DEF tank. At 15,700 lbs, the VD300-04FT4MP is three-phase only — no single-phase output option exists at this output level in the mobile T4F lineup. The next step up is the VD550-04FT4MP, which moves to the larger 334.5 × 99.5 in trailer platform with a 550-gallon fuel tank.
Three-Phase Only at 300 kW#
The VD300-04FT4MP is three-phase only. Unlike the VD250 below it (which supports 120/240V single-phase), the VD300 is available only in 120/208V and 277/480V three-phase configurations. This is an important planning distinction for applications with any single-phase load requirements. If 120/240V single-phase is needed at or near 300 kWe, a step-down transformer or a different product specification is required.
Platform Ceiling on the 260 × 92 Trailer#
The VD300-04FT4MP is the maximum output available on the 260 × 92 in trailer class. The VD550-04FT4MP steps up to the 334.5 × 99.5 in trailer with the TWD1682GE engine (16.12L, I-6) and a 550-gallon fuel tank — representing a substantial increase in trailer size, weight (24,750 lbs vs 15,700 lbs), and fuel capacity. If load requirements sit between 300 and 550 kWe, there is no intermediate model in the mobile T4F VD series.
When to specify the VD300-04FT4MP#
- 270–300 kW three-phase temporary or standby power at industrial, construction, municipal, or healthcare sites
- Maximum output from the 260 × 92 in Blue Star mobile trailer class
- Sites up to 4,921 ft elevation at ambient temperatures to 122°F
- Applications requiring EU Stage 5 dual certification at 300 kWe
- Projects where the 334.5 × 99.5 in VD550 trailer is too large and 300 kWe satisfies the load requirement
Our service experience#
The TAD1383VE running at 300 kWe full load consumes 21.1 gph — plan fuel logistics accordingly for 24-hour deployments (approximately 500 gallons per day). The 18.5-gallon DEF tank requires daily attention at this consumption rate. Exhaust temperature of 893°F is on the higher end for this platform; ensure exhaust connections and flex connectors are rated appropriately. DPF regeneration is generally reliable at this load density. Annual full-load testing and Volvo Penta T4F/Stage 5 aftertreatment inspections are required maintenance items.
