Overview#
The Blue Star PD60-01 is a 60-kilowatt Tier 3 diesel standby generator powered by the Perkins 1104D-E44TG1, a 4.4-liter electronically injected turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It is the highest-output generator on the 80×38 in platform in Blue Star's Perkins lineup — producing 60 kWe from a compact package that shares its footprint with the PD50-01.
Blue Star Power Systems (North Mankato, Minnesota) pairs the 1104D-E44TG1 with a Stamford UCI224E alternator and DSE DCP7310 controller. At 2,325 lbs and 80×38 in, the PD60-01 is well-suited for light-commercial and multi-family applications where a 60 kW generator needs to fit in a space originally planned for a 50 kW unit.
The 1104D-E44TG1 at 60 kWe#
The 'E' designation distinguishes this engine from the PD50-01's 1104D-44TG1 — electronic fuel injection replaces mechanical injection, providing better transient load response and compatibility with the DSE DCP7310's CAN Bus J1939 communication. Both engines are turbocharged without intercooling, but the electronic injection allows the 1104D-E44TG1 to extract an additional 10 kWe from the same displacement. Exhaust temperature at 1,191°F is notably high; ensure exhaust system components are rated accordingly.
When to spec the PD60-01#
- 50–60 kW emergency standby loads on diesel fuel
- Sites with a constrained 80×38 in equipment pad where 60 kW output is required
- Light-commercial, multi-family, commercial, and telecom applications with Tier 3 acceptance
- Competitive bids against a 60 kW Cummins or Kohler where footprint is a decision factor
Our service experience#
The 1104D-E44TG1 is one of Perkins' most widely deployed generator engines. Electronic injection simplifies diagnostics — fault codes communicate directly to the DSE DCP7310 over J1939. Service follows the Perkins 1100D generator series schedule. Parts are globally available through the Perkins dealer network.
