Overview#
The Blue Star JD100-01 is a 100-kilowatt Tier 3 diesel standby generator built around a John Deere 4045HF285 four-cylinder intercooled engine. It represents the top of the 4.5-liter John Deere platform within Blue Star's lineup — extracting 158 HP at 1800 RPM through a combination of turbocharging and charge air cooling on a compact 90×44 in footprint.
Blue Star Power Systems (North Mankato, Minnesota; part of DEUTZ AG since 2024) pairs the 4045HF285 with a Stamford UCI274 alternator and DSE DCP7310 controller. The 90×44 in OPU footprint is shared with the JD80-02, allowing equipment rooms designed for that pad to accept either unit without structural modification.
The 4045HF285 at 100 kWe#
The John Deere 4045HF285 runs at 158 HP to support the 100 kWe rating — a substantial increase from the same engine's 126 HP at 80 kWe in the JD80-02. This higher power output means the engine operates closer to its thermal limits, making proper room ventilation and cooling airflow more critical. Fuel consumption at full load (7.76 gph) is 22% higher than the JD80-02 (6.34 gph), reflecting the higher load demand.
When to spec the JD100-01#
- 75–100 kW continuous emergency loads on diesel fuel
- Sites where Tier 3 is acceptable and the load exceeds the JD80-02's headroom
- Light-industrial facilities, commercial buildings, multi-family complexes, and municipal applications
- Competitive bids against a Kohler 100REOZK or Cummins C100D6
Our service experience#
At 100 kWe, the 4045HF285 is running at its peak rated output. We recommend load bank testing during commissioning and at each annual service to verify the unit can pick up the full connected load under worst-case conditions. Service intervals follow the standard John Deere 4045 industrial schedule, and parts are available through John Deere's nationwide dealer network.
