Overview#
The MQ Power DCA-300 WhisperWatt is a 300 kVA (240 kW prime / 264 kW standby) portable diesel generator — the large-frame powerhouse of the WhisperWatt lineup. It uses a John Deere 9.0L inline-6 (PowerTech 6090HFG06) and is packaged for towable temporary power with WhisperWatt sound attenuation rated 72 dB(A) at 23 feet.
At this capacity, the DCA-300 serves major construction projects, large-scale events, and disaster recovery operations where hundreds of kilowatts are needed at a temporary location with manageable noise.
The John Deere 6090 platform#
The DCA-300 uses the John Deere PowerTech 6090 9.0L inline-6 — a widely-deployed industrial engine family with broad parts and service support:
- Tier 4 Final via EGR + DOC + SCR (requires DEF and periodic DPF regen on equipped variants)
- John Deere dealer network for parts and service
- Industrial pedigree across agricultural, construction, and stationary power applications
Tier 4 Final at 300 kVA#
At this size, the aftertreatment system is significant:
- DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) — requires periodic regeneration
- SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) — requires DEF refilling
- Ash cleaning — DPF eventually needs ash service (interval per OEM service schedule)
- Regen management — the unit will attempt automatic regen; operators must not interrupt
Our service experience#
We deploy DCA-300 units for emergency commercial backup when a facility's permanent standby fails or during extended utility outages beyond the facility's fuel capacity. The John Deere 6090 platform is well-supported and broadly familiar to diesel technicians. The portable mounting and self-contained fuel tank make deployment straightforward. The primary service consideration vs the smaller WhisperWatt units: the DPF/SCR aftertreatment adds complexity that requires trained technicians for fault diagnosis.
