Overview#

The Generac SG625 is a 625-kilowatt industrial natural gas generator from Generac's SG Series, powered by a Generac-built 33.9-liter V12 spark-ignited engine with turbocharged and aftercooled aspiration. This unit is EPA Certified for both Stationary Emergency and Non-Emergency operation and is Demand Response Ready for utility peak-shaving programs.

The SG625 shares the 33.9L engine platform with the SG750, which uses a higher-output tune of the same block. Generac pairs this engine with the K0732124Y22 alternator featuring Class H insulation, permanent magnet excitation, and sealed bearings. The Power Zone Pro Sync controller provides NFPA 110 Level 1 compliance, arc flash maintenance mode, Modbus RTU/TCP-IP communication, and a 7-inch sunlight-readable color touchscreen display.

The Generac 33.9L platform#

The 33.9-liter engine in the SG625 features a 4-valve cylinder head, 10.0:1 compression ratio, and chromium molybdenum steel crankshaft with seven main bearings. At standby rating, it produces 941 horsepower with BMEP of 188 psi and piston speed of 1,890 ft/min. The 126.8-quart (120-liter) oil capacity reflects the substantial size of this engine platform. Cooling is via forced circulation by centrifugal pump with a 64-inch pusher fan, and the coolant system holds 55 gallons. The engine is designed to operate at up to 122 degrees F ambient temperature without derating.

Our service experience#

The SG625 is deployed in large commercial campuses, hospitals, and industrial facilities throughout Northern California where natural gas infrastructure makes gaseous standby power the preferred choice over diesel. At nearly 6,850 scfh full-load consumption, gas supply sizing is critical -- we verify supply pressure (minimum 14 inches WC) and regulator capacity during commissioning and at each annual service. The oil system holds 120 liters, making oil changes a substantial operation that should be planned with adequate drain capacity. The ignition system and spark plugs remain the most frequent maintenance items, and we recommend inspecting them at each scheduled service interval. The structural steel sub-base with spring isolators provides excellent vibration isolation for the considerable mass of this unit.

Estimate runtime for the Generac SG625

Adjust load percent and tank size to estimate runtime. Pre-filled with this model's spec where available.

Estimate runtime on this tank

Fuel demand at 75% load

6,562,500 BTU/hr6562.5 cf/min @ 1,000 BTU/cf

On utility natural gas the runtime is generally unlimited provided the supply line and meter can deliver this BTU/hr at the engine's required inlet pressure (typically 5–14" WC residential, up to 5 psi commercial). Confirm against the OEM's published fuel-pressure spec.

Frequently Asked Questions

What engine does the Generac SG625 use?
The SG625 uses a Generac-built 33.9-liter 12-cylinder spark-ignited engine with turbocharged and aftercooled aspiration running at 1800 RPM. The engine has a bore of 5.9 inches (150 mm), stroke of 6.30 inches (160 mm), and 10.0:1 compression ratio. It produces 941 horsepower at standby rating. The engine features a 4-valve cylinder head, electronic ignition, cast aluminum alloy pistons, and chromium molybdenum steel crankshaft.
What is the fuel consumption of the Generac SG625?
On natural gas at standby/demand response rating, the SG625 consumes 6,847 scfh at 100% load, 5,294 scfh at 75%, 3,923 scfh at 50%, and 2,725 scfh at 25% load. Operating fuel pressure required is 14-20 inches of water column (3.5-5.0 kPa) measured at the generator fuel inlet on the frame rail.
What voltages are available for the SG625?
The SG625 is available in four three-phase configurations: 120/208 VAC (2,171 amps), 120/240 VAC (1,882 amps), 277/480 VAC (941 amps), and 346/600 VAC (753 amps), all at 0.8 power factor. The standard alternator K0732124Y22 provides 2,450 skVA motor starting capability at 277/480V with 30% voltage dip. Alternator upsizing options are available for higher motor starting requirements.
What are the dimensions and weight of the SG625?
The open-set SG625 measures 178.3 x 82.6 x 110.3 inches and weighs approximately 14,352-14,932 lbs. The weather-protected enclosure is 201.0 x 96.0 x 155.2 inches (steel: 18,051-18,631 lbs, aluminum: 17,220-17,800 lbs). Level 1 and Level 2 sound-attenuated enclosures are available in both steel and aluminum construction.
Can the SG625 accept full load immediately?
Yes, the SG625 is rated to accept full load in less than 10 seconds, which is a standard feature. This meets NFPA 110 requirements for emergency and legally required standby power systems. The Power Zone Pro Sync controller provides NFPA 110 Level 1 compliance with full digital voltage regulation and engine governor control.
