Overview#
The Winco DE20I4 is a 20 kW standby / 18 kW prime diesel generator powered by an Isuzu 4LE1 2.2-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated diesel engine with a Stamford alternator. Part of the DE open-frame diesel series, it delivers single-phase 120/240V output for small commercial and institutional standby applications. EPA Tier 4 Interim certified. 100% US-made in Le Center, Minnesota since 1927.
The DE series is Winco's open-frame diesel line — designed for indoor generator room installation. This eliminates enclosure cost and gives the installer full flexibility on ventilation, exhaust routing, and fuel supply configuration.
The American Manufacturing Advantage#
Since 1927, Winco has built generators in Le Center, Minnesota with US labor and components. The DE20I4 pairs a globally non-proprietary Isuzu 4LE1 engine with a Stamford alternator — two components that any qualified diesel technician can service without OEM-specific tooling or parts programs.
For small municipalities, rural schools, and agricultural facilities subject to Buy American procurement requirements, the DE20I4 provides 20 kW of US-manufactured standby power at a competitive price point. The Isuzu 4LE1 engine is distributed by Isuzu's industrial engine dealer network — parts are available nationwide independent of Winco's own distribution.
Service & Maintenance#
Oil changes every 250 hours or annually (shorter than the 500-hour diesel interval typical of larger engines). Fuel and air filter changes at 500 hours. Annual fuel filter changes are mandatory for standby units where diesel degrades in storage tanks. The 4LE1 uses standard diesel engine consumables available from Isuzu dealers and diesel parts distributors.
The Stamford alternator requires standard generator alternator maintenance — brush inspection, bearing service, and insulation check. Transfer switch contacts should be exercised weekly to prevent oxidation. Major overhaul at 20,000 hours.
