Overview#
The Blue Star PD30-01IT4 is a 25-kilowatt Tier 4 Interim diesel standby generator powered by the Perkins 404D-22TAG, a 2.22-liter turbocharged and charge-air-cooled four-cylinder engine. It sits between the naturally aspirated PD20-01IT4 and the 4.4-liter PD50-01, occupying a size class well suited for small commercial and municipal standby loads.
Blue Star Power Systems (North Mankato, Minnesota) pairs the 404D-22TAG with a Stamford S1L2-J41 alternator and DSE DCP7310 controller on a compact 80×38 in skid weighing 1,600 lbs. The 404D-22TAG's excellent altitude capability — rated to 6,562 ft (2,000 m) at 104°F — gives the PD30-01IT4 a meaningful advantage over competing models in mountain and high-elevation installations.
The 404D-22TAG at 25 kWe#
The turbocharged and intercooled 404D-22TAG extracts 25 kWe from the same 2.22-liter block used in the PD20-01IT4's naturally aspirated 404D-22G. The charge air cooling (intercooler) reduces intake charge temperature, allowing denser air/fuel mixtures and better efficiency at altitude. Exhaust temperature at stack is 892°F — moderate for a diesel of this size, which keeps exhaust system requirements straightforward.
When to spec the PD30-01IT4#
- 20–25 kW emergency standby loads on diesel fuel
- Small commercial, telecom, worship, and municipal applications
- High-elevation sites where altitude derating would eliminate competing models
- Tier 4 Interim required by local air quality regulations
Our service experience#
The 404D-22TAG is a well-proven Perkins engine used broadly in light industrial and generator applications. Service intervals follow the standard Perkins 400D generator series schedule. Parts are available through the Perkins dealer network. Load bank test at commissioning to verify full-load pickup under site conditions, particularly at higher elevations.
