Overview#
The Winco DR35F4 is a 35 kW standby diesel generator powered by an FPT Industrial N45-family 4.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine with a Stamford alternator. It is the first FPT-powered unit in Winco's DR enclosed diesel standby series, available in single-phase (120/240V) and three-phase (277/480V) configurations. EPA Tier III certified (standby). 100% US-made in Le Center, Minnesota since 1927.
The DR35F4 marks the transition from Isuzu to FPT engines in the DR lineup. At 35 kW and above, the DR series uses FPT Industrial diesel platforms from CNH Industrial — the same engine family that powers Case IH and New Holland agricultural equipment worldwide.
The American Manufacturing Advantage#
Winco has manufactured generators in Le Center, Minnesota since 1927 — making it America's oldest generator manufacturer. Every DR35F4 is built, wired, and tested at that US facility, with US labor and components.
The DR35F4's non-proprietary design is deliberate: an FPT Industrial engine (serviceable at any Case IH or New Holland dealer or independent diesel shop) paired with a Stamford alternator (the most widely deployed alternator in the world). This combination makes the DR35F4 fully independent from Winco's own distribution network. For municipalities, school districts, and federal facilities with Buy American procurement requirements, this is a qualifying US-manufactured product.
Service & Maintenance#
Oil and fuel filter changes every 500 hours or annually — diesel fuel sitting in a standby tank degrades, so the annual interval applies even on lightly exercised units. Air filter inspection at 500 hours. The FPT N45 engine uses standard diesel shop consumables available through any CNH Industrial dealer or diesel parts supplier.
The Stamford alternator requires periodic inspection of brushes, bearings, and winding insulation. No special tooling required. Major overhaul interval is 20,000 hours — a benchmark that long-cycle standby generators with low annual hours will rarely reach in their operational lifetime.
Transfer switch contacts should be exercised weekly. Standby generators that sit without load testing develop contact oxidation that causes slow or failed transfers during actual outages.
Our Service Experience#
PowerGen services Winco DR units throughout the Bay Area and Northern California. The FPT Industrial engine and Stamford alternator mean we can source parts through standard diesel channels — no waiting on a dedicated Winco dealer. The DR35F4 is a natural fit for public agencies, schools, and institutions where Buy American compliance and component independence matter more than smart monitoring or brand recognition. It is an honest, well-built US machine in a class where most competitors are assembled overseas.
