Overview#
The Generac SG1000 is the flagship of Generac's SG Series industrial gaseous generator lineup, delivering 1,000 kilowatts of standby power from a Generac-built 49.0-liter V12 spark-ignited engine with turbocharged and aftercooled aspiration. EPA Certified for both Stationary Emergency and Non-Emergency operation, the SG1000 is Demand Response Ready and targets hospitals, data centers, large campuses, and heavy industrial facilities.
At the megawatt class, the SG1000 uses the K1248064N22 alternator with Class H insulation, permanent magnet excitation, and flexible plate coupling. The Power Zone Pro Sync controller provides NFPA 110 Level 1 compliance, arc flash maintenance mode, Modbus RTU/TCP-IP communication, Ethernet-based generator-to-generator paralleling communications, and a 7-inch sunlight-readable color touchscreen display with built-in diagnostics.
The Generac 49.0L V12 platform#
The 49.0-liter engine is Generac's largest spark-ignited platform, stepping up from the 33.9L used in the SG625/SG750. With a 6.69-inch bore and 7.09-inch stroke, this engine produces 1,467 horsepower at BMEP of 216 psi and piston speed of 2,126 ft/min. The MotorTech electronic ignition system, variable venturi carburetor, and chromium molybdenum steel (SCM440H) crankshaft distinguish this engine from the smaller SG Series platforms. The 285-quart (270-liter) oil capacity is substantial, and the 76-inch (1,930 mm) diameter pusher fan provides airflow of 57,846 cfm across the radiator. The 80-gallon coolant system capacity supports operation up to 122 degrees F ambient.
Our service experience#
The SG1000 is a significant installation. At over 18 feet long in open set configuration and nearly 27.5 feet in an enclosure, site planning must account for clearances, rigging, and foundation requirements for the 22,800+ pound unit. Gas supply engineering is critical -- at 11,243 scfh full-load consumption with 14-28 in WC supply pressure requirement, a dedicated commercial gas meter and regulator station is mandatory. The 270-liter oil changes require logistical planning. We recommend maintaining a dedicated service contract with an industrial generator dealer for units at this scale. The MotorTech ignition system and variable venturi carburetor require specialized expertise -- ensure your service provider has specific experience with the 49.0L platform, not just the smaller SG Series engines.
