Overview#
The SENS MicroGenius S4 is a high-current battery charger system for large-frame generators and mission-critical starting applications. It uses the same proven MicroGenius 2 switchmode modules in a paralleled architecture, delivering 25 to 100 amps at 12-120VDC — four times the current of a standalone MicroGenius 2.
Where a single MicroGenius 2 handles small and mid-size generators, the S4 targets the heavy end: CAT 3500-series, Cummins QSK, and MTU 4000-series generators with large battery banks and high cranking current demands. The modular architecture means internal redundancy is built in — if one module fails, the remaining modules maintain charging.
When to spec the S4 vs the MicroGenius 2#
| Application | MicroGenius 2 | MicroGenius S2 | MicroGenius S4 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Current need | 6-25A | 20-50A | 25-100A |
| Battery banks | Single | Single or dual 25A | 2+ banks |
| Circuit breakers | External | Included | Included |
| Internal redundancy | No | Optional | Yes |
| Surge suppression | External | External | Included |
| Typical generator | 20-500 kW | 500-1000 kW | 1000+ kW |
Our service experience#
We specify the S4 for large-frame generator installations at hospitals, data centers, and water treatment plants. The modular design simplifies field service — a failed module can be hot-swapped without taking the entire charger offline. The integrated circuit breakers also eliminate a common installation problem: external breakers sized incorrectly for the charger output, which we see frequently on competitors' products.
