Overview#

The Triton Power TP-NG1000-UL is a 1000 kW (1 MW) natural gas standby generator powered by a PSI (Power Solutions International) 53L turbocharged V-24 engine running at 1800 RPM. This is the flagship of Triton's EPA-certified natural gas generator lineup, UL2200 listed for the US and Canadian markets. The Leroy Somer Class H insulation alternator delivers 1000 kW (1250 kVA) standby and 900 kW (1125 kVA) prime power in three-phase configuration at 120/208V and 277/480V.

The PSI 53L V-24 is the largest engine in Triton's natural gas range, providing 1 MW of backup power from a single genset. The 24-cylinder configuration distributes combustion loads across a large number of cylinders for smooth operation and manageable per-cylinder stress. At this output level, the TP-NG1000 serves large hospitals, data centers, industrial complexes, and campus-wide power systems. The unit meets EPA Stationary Spark Ignition emissions standards and is rated at 70 dBA.

Our service experience#

A 1 MW natural gas generator is a major infrastructure commitment requiring careful coordination between the generator installer, electrical contractor, gas utility, and AHJ (authority having jurisdiction). The PSI V-24 engine has extensive ignition and cooling system service requirements, but the modular design provides reasonable access to components. Gas supply at this scale requires dedicated utility infrastructure, and we recommend a minimum 72-hour gas supply continuity analysis as part of the project planning process.

Estimate runtime on this tank

Fuel demand at 75% load

10,500,000 BTU/hr10500.0 cf/min @ 1,000 BTU/cf

On utility natural gas the runtime is generally unlimited provided the supply line and meter can deliver this BTU/hr at the engine's required inlet pressure (typically 5–14" WC residential, up to 5 psi commercial). Confirm against the OEM's published fuel-pressure spec.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the TP-NG1000 suitable for data center applications?
The TP-NG1000-UL delivers 1 MW of standby power from a single unit, UL2200 listed for NFPA 110 compliance. Natural gas fuel provides continuous supply through utility infrastructure, eliminating diesel storage limitations for extended outages. For Tier III and Tier IV data centers, multiple TP-NG1000 units can be paralleled with N+1 or 2N redundancy configurations.
What gas supply is required for a 1 MW natural gas generator?
A 1000 kW natural gas generator consumes approximately 12,000-14,000 cubic feet per hour (CFH) at full load. This requires a dedicated high-pressure gas service, typically with a 4-inch or larger main, a commercial gas meter rated for the flow, and industrial-grade pressure regulation. The gas utility must engineer a dedicated tap and confirm system capacity before project commitment.
How does the TP-NG1000 compare to the diesel TP-P1000-T2-S-UL?
Both units deliver 1000 kW standby power. The TP-NG1000 uses a PSI 53L V-24 gas engine with EPA Stationary Spark Ignition certification, while the TP-P1000-T2-S-UL uses a Perkins diesel engine with Tier 2 certification. The natural gas unit eliminates the need for large diesel fuel storage (typically 2,000+ gallons for 24-hour runtime at 1 MW), reduces particulate and NOx emissions, and avoids fuel degradation. The diesel unit offers complete fuel independence from utility infrastructure.

Why we recommend Triton Power

Triton Power is our value brand for mobile and portable diesel generators, and an emerging option for industrial standby. When MQ Power's pricing is a stretch or lead times are too long, Triton delivers comparable capability at a lower price point with faster availability.

We are developing our Triton Power sales relationship and building fleet experience. Every engine platform Triton uses — Perkins, John Deere, Kubota, Scania, Volvo — is one we already service daily across other brands. Triton's open architecture means our technicians can maintain these units with standard tooling and widely available parts.
