Overview#
The Katolight D250 is a 250 kW diesel standby generator powered by the legendary Cummins NTA855-G3 — a 14.0-liter, six-cylinder inline diesel engine that has been one of the most widely deployed generator drive engines in North America. The NTA855 platform dates back to the 1960s and has earned a reputation for exceptional durability and straightforward serviceability that few modern engines can match.
Katolight is a discontinued brand, acquired by MTU (now Rolls-Royce Power Systems) in 2006 and rebranded as MTU Onsite Energy. No new Katolight units are manufactured. However, the combination of Katolight packaging with the Cummins NTA855 engine means these units have some of the best long-term serviceability of any legacy generator — Cummins NTA855 parts remain widely stocked by Cummins distributors, independent suppliers, and rebuilders nationwide.
OnPoint provides full maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for Katolight D250 installations. The NTA855 engine is one we know extremely well, and we can keep these units running reliably for decades with proper preventive maintenance and timely component replacement.
